In this introductory workshop the primary objective is to introduce the participants to Belbin® Team Role Theory and then apply it to their team. The participants will be required to complete The Belbin® Self-Perception Inventory prior to commencement of the workshop. We will then work through exercises and experiencal learning activities to
Dr. Meredith Belbin's work at Henley Management College identified nine clusters of behaviour, which he termed Team Roles. Each Team Role has its particular strengths and allowable weaknesses, and each has an important contribution to make to a team. He discovered that under business simulation conditions using his EME and Teamopoly activities that teams with this balance of individuals and behavioral patterns out-performed other teams.
Very few people display characteristics of just one Team Role. Most people have 3 or 4 preferred roles, which can be adopted or eschewed as the situation requires.
- Allow participants to understand the underlying principles for the Belbin team roles model and have a clear grasp of the 9 team roles used.
- To find out their preferred and secondary roles through the use on-line questionnaire, 360 degree feedback and facilitated discussion.
- To experience how im-balance can effect how a team will function.
- Use Belbin concepts to allow individual awareness in team activity and also provide an overview of team performance in a variety of tasks and activities.

Workshop 1 is designed to give people a solid grounding in the dynamics of Belbin team role theory and to give them the tools for further individual and team development using team roles as a framework.
